I love smoothies in the summertime! They help keep me from eating double-dipped ice cream cones before 8am and Chick-Fil-A cookies n cream milkshakes every night for dinner! Don't I wish I could though!
When I first started making smoothies regularly a few years ago, I was pretty basic. You'll see two ingredients on this list that might freak you out but I need you to trust me and give them a whirl. Please!
Summertime Blueberry Avocado Smoothie
- Blender (I use NutriBullet with no complaints. I still dream of a VitaMix though!)
- Measuring cup (someday you'll be able to eyeball it, but let's measure today)
- 1 c. frozen blueberries
- 1c. unsweetened almond milk
- 1 big handful of spinach
- 1/2 avocado
- chocolate protein powder (optional)
Blend it all up! That's it, so simple! Here are a few tips I've learned over the years: if your blueberries aren't frozen, add some ice cubes to the list. I'll use the protein powder if I'm having this smoothie after a run or workout but not if it is for a meal. Don't freak out at the green stuff. The spinach only changes the color to a little bit darker, and adds a serving of vegetables to your meal - it is tasteless! The avocado was the most recent "risky" ingredient I've tried in smoothies and it takes the creaminess above and beyond. Also tasteless. (Seriously y'all, if you taste either item in your smoothie, let me know and I'll promptly do 100 Burpees).
Be sure to let me know if you try it over the weekend! Have a fabulous one!
