A few years ago I heard yoga could improve my posture, balance, strength, flexibility and mental awareness. My curiosity led me to my first yoga class in midtown Tulsa. I simply had to experience yoga for myself.
I could not touch my toes, hold a downward dog for two complete breath cycles, open my heart fully or do any type of arm balance. I decided to continue to practice. Throughout the process, I became more flexible, increased my mental strength and became more disciplined while my stress level decreased.
Yoga is a practice, not a religion. It is an ancient art connecting the breath to movements, also known as asanas. With patience, yoga has increased my depth of relaxation and provided me time to surrender myself through postures and stillness, while reflecting on my intention for each class.
I am a yoga teacher now because I want to share the benefits of yoga with others. I’ve witnessed firsthand how yoga can enhance willpower and confidence while fostering a healthy body image. Nothing heals our mind, body and spirit better than yoga outside on a beautiful day.
